[224] (Captain) David MIZELL SR. (Justice of the
Peace) was born about
1770 in Old St. Mathews Parrish , Georgia. He served in the military
between 1807 and 1809 in Bulloch County, Georgia.
Captain of the Militia in the 49th District in Bulloch County, Georgia
in 1807-1809 and later a Justice of the Peace in the 381st District in
Camden County, Georgia in 1813-1824
He died about 1850 in Alachua County, Florida.
David was also married to a Nancy, and it is not certain which of his
two wives were mother to which children.
David Mizell lived in Camden County, Georgia, (one of the original
eight counties) before going to some place near Lake City, Florida,
(then called Alligator) to reside. It was there that an Indian
massacre took place in the fall of 1838. At that time, a family
composed of Mr. and Mrs. John Tippins, a six-months-old child and a
little three-year-old girl, Cornelia, were on the way to the home of
David Mizell, Mrs. Tippins' father, to go into the fort for protection
from the Indians. Mr. Tippins was shot from the horse, Mrs. Tippins
(nee Nancy Mizell), who was scalped by the Indians, died the morning
following the Indian attack, and the little three-year-old girl, who
was chopped in the head with the tomahawks, lived to be 88 years of
age, having married a Mr. Mobley in 1861, father of the late James
Mobley of Lake Keystone. Cornelia Tippins was reared by her mother's
sister, Sarah Ann Mizell Sparkman, wife of Byrd Sparkman, whose son,
Sim, was for many years tax assessor of Hillsborough County.
From Dan Franklin:
The first record I have on him is the 1809 census of Camden Co, GA.
Then he is in the 1820 census of Camden Co, GA; 1830 Alachua Co, FL;
1840 Columbia Co, FL and 1850 Alachua Co, FL.
Their family tradition is that he married Sarah Albritton. I think she
is supposed to be the daughter of Richard's brother John. I have seen
nothing to support this. One person wrote me that he had seen something
in a church record in Laurens Co, GA. I have not yet seen this record.
I'm not positive on his wife's name. Some of the FL line says that he
married Sarah Albritton. I've seen nothing other than family tradition
to support this. There is another David Mizell b.1784, GA who married
Sarah Albritton, daughter of Richard Albritton and Mary Hart. He left a
will naming his deceased daughter, Sarah Mizell and her children and
husband. It is possible that the David Mizell in FL b.1770 did marry
another Sarah Albritton who was the daughter of brother of Richard
Albritton; but I think it is also very possible the records are
confused and we just don't know the name of the wife of David Mizell
b.1770.
From Shirley Harper Swisher:
David Mizell Sr. & Sarah Albritton md. in Bulloch Co.
11/27/1808. Sarah is daughter of John Albritton &
Avarilla Atherton born abt. 1786. & died in Florida....David Sr. is
Captain David Mizell.
His 1st wife was Nancy Evans.
David Mizell Jr. & Mary C. Pearce md. 12/24/1829
From Debbie Christiani:
Last night while I was trying to find Sarah's parents I found a file
that shows David Mizell was married 3 times. Twice after Sarah and they
ended up in LA. In fact this file shows Sarah's David as being II and
David III being his second wife's
