From the book "Our Colonial Meador Ancestors" by Victor Paul Meadors
"John Meador Jr. was born shortly before 1694, so was about
30 years old at his death in 1720. He is first mentioned in
the deed of gift by his father, in which he was to share
with his brother Richard a portion of the 450-acre grant
lands which lay west of the Great Branch. This share must
have been about 150 acres, as this is the amount which taxes
were assessed in 1715 .
"John married Sarah Gregory, daughter of Richard Gregory Sr.,
who died in 1701 . Sarah preceded John in death, as she is
not mentioned in his will. On his deathbed in 1720, John
declared his verbal will . His wishes were that everything
be left to his daughter, (5) Susannah Meador. If she should
die, then his estate was to be divided between his brother
Thomas and three brothers-in-law, William Bourne, John
Armstrong, and William Jordan.
"Susannah, his only child, was "crippled...helpless, not
capable to put on her clothes or to walk" . She was put in
the care of her uncles William Bourne and James Bradbury,
and Bourne and (4) Thomas Meador were appointed to oversee
her personal estate. The lands she inherited from her
father were rented out for her maintenance.
In the accounting of her care, a young son is mentioned, to
whom was given two shoats and four glass bottles. Later
evidence would seem to indicate that this was Edward Meador,
who was born about 1730 to 1734. This cannot be positively
stated as direct confirmation has not been found. This
Edward first appears in Essex records in 1755 , and appears
frequently in court until 1764, mostly for debt, trespass,
disorderly conduct, and for not attending the parrish
church. In 1757, with several others, he was ordered to
give a bond of 20 pounds for his continued good behavior for
twelve months and a day . A wife, Mary, is sometimes
mentioned. He does not appear in public records after 1764,
and his fate is unknown.
"(5) Susannah Meador bore a second child in 1753, for which
sin she was summoned before the county Grand Jury and fined
50 shillings and 500 pounds of tobacco . Nothing further
known.
"By a chain of inheritance from her grandfather, Richard
Gregory Sr., through his son Richard Gregory Jr. to Sarah
Gregory, her mother, Susannah inherited a half interest in a
tract on King's Branch. With her uncle (4) Thomas Meador as
her attorney, she sold this tract to John Chamberlain in
1745 . However, the disposal of the property inherited
from her father is unknown. No further record of he has
been found.
"WILL OF JOHN MEADOR, JR.
"Memorandum of the verbal will of John Meador Jr. who

"Item; I give to my daughter Susannah Meador all my whole
estate, but if my daughter Susannah Meador dye before she
comes of age or marries, then I will that my sd. estate be
equally divided between William Bourne and Thomas Meador &
John Armstrong & William Jordan.
"Item; I desire that William Bourne and Thomas Meador be my
executors and that they take care of sd. daughter.
