Moved to North Florida in 1837, then in 1842 settled in the old Cook
Section, now known as Knight's Station.
Jesse Knight served in the Indian War. He was a private under Capt.
Samuel E. Swilley in the 2nd regiment, Florida militia, June 16th to
Dec 16th, 1837; and also under Capt. David R. Bryan in his company of
Lowneds Coutny militia in 1838; and also a private in 1840 in Lieut.
Stephen W. Whitfield's detachment of Georgia militia stationed at old
Fort Gilmer now in Clinch County, on the Suwannee River.
Following his marriage, he made his home in Hamilton County, Florida,
near his wife's father's home. About 1860 he moved with his family to
Manatee County, Florida, where he settled and lived until his death in
1911. He was a local preacher in the Methodist Church, and did much
local work in his section in establishing and developing church
