From the "Glenwood Opinion," March 29, 1928:
Mrs. Stranathan Former Resident Dies in Kansas
Mr. and Mrs. S. P. Stranathan were called to Gaylord, Kans., by the
death of his mother, Mrs. Will Stranathan who passed away at the home
of her daughter, Mrs. Nellie Gibson on last Thursday night. Funeral
services were held in that city Sunday afternoon and the body was laid
to rest in the family lot in the cemetery there, beside the grave of
her husband who preceded her in death by some twelve years.
Lucy A. Meadows was born in Saline County Missouri in 1845 and when but
a girl of 5 moved to Mills County, Iowa with her parents where she grew
to young womanhood. In the year of 1866 just after the close of the
Civil War, she became the bride of Will Stranathan - he having just
returned after having served in Company B of the 29th Iowa Regiment
which was recruited at Glenwood and did service with the Union forces.
They established a home on a farm northeast of Glenwood where they
lived for several years. In 1870, while on a buffalo hunt in Kansas he
saw some land to his liking and returned the following year and staked
out a homestead. In 1872 he moved his family to this homestead which
is near the present town of Gaylord. Here they lived and until in the
spring of 1916 when he passed away, after which Mrs. Stranathan made
her home with her daughter in Gaylord, but retained the old homestead
which she owned at the time of her death.
Seven children came into this household, six of whom survive their
mother, one daughter Irene having died in infancy. The children living
are Mrs. Esther Harrington, Macon GA; S.P., of Glenwood, IA; G.W. of
Beaver, Okla; C. L. of Laramie, Wyo.; Blaine of Enid, Okla. and Mrs
Gibson of Gaylord, Kans.; all of these chidren were present at the
funeral service except Mrs. Harrington who was detained by illness.
She is also survived by twenty-one grandchildren and four great
grandchldren and one half-sister, Mrs. Will Rowe of north of Glenwo
