Is this the same John Knight who perished trying to find the Northwest
Passage?
John Knight, an Englishman hired by the Danes, in search of the
Northwest Passage, got stuck in ice off the coast of Labrador, north of
Nain.
In 1606 John Knight had approached the strait entrance only to perish
mysteriously on the Labrador coast.

Was thirty years of age when he succeeded. In 1637 he was made Lord
High Admiral of England. In1641 he took the side of the Parliament
against the King, and throughout the Civil War supported what he
conceived to be the constitutional cause, an attitude of independence,
which brought him into frequent conflict with both parties.
Nevertheless the influence which he wielded and the integrity of his
character were such that he retained the confidence and respect of
both, and was entrusted on several occasions with the conduct of
negotiations between the two sides. He vigorously opposed the execution
of the King, refused to take any part in public affairs under the
Commonwealth, and was one of the leaders in the movement to restore
Charles II to the thro
